Villa O

Location : Tahiti, French Polynesia

Resort Living

This house with contemporary architecture has been designed to highlight its splendid view of Moore, the sister island of Tahiti.

Built with an indoor/outdoor living concept, the spaces are generous and open, featuring a subtle transition between indoor and outdoor areas.

Based on off-white and wood, each architectural form and material of the house has been chosen in response to the immediate environment of the site: the greenery of the mountain, the blue of the ocean, and the yellow-orange-pink of the sunset.
A Dining Room at the Heart of the Home
The clients primarily shared their passion for cooking and their intention to have ample space for entertaining guests.

Designed to accommodate a family of four, the rooms are arranged around the kitchen/dining area, the heart of the home.

The dining area, under a covered terrace, extends from the living room and kitchen. The sliding doors disappear, making the separation almost non-existent.

Contemporary

The natural teak herringbone flooring laid in the living room, corridors and bedrooms add warmth to the white interior, highlighting stunning views over the harbour. A soft, contemporary palette was chosen for the living space with rose gold accents and grenada green shelves dividers.

On the covered terrace, the dining area boasts a majestic Maru Maru wood table, echoing the materiality of the bar. Decorative solid wood beams adorn the ceiling, providing visual continuity between the living room and the dining area. Classic Wishbone chairs with woven seats add texture to this ensemble and reinforce the natural aspect, reminding us of the indoor/outdoor theme.

The kitchen is ultra-modern, functional yet sleek: it features white semi-gloss surfaces, invisible handles, and a marbled Silestone countertop, a mineral surface with low silica content composed of high-quality minerals and recycled materials. The kitchen is equipped with a solid Maru Maru wood bar adorned with hanging rattan light fi xtures. The choice of these materials gives the interior of this house a warm and welcoming, minimalist feel.

The Living Room, A Tribute to the Polynesian Fare

The living room, the main family room, brings comfort and conviviality to the house. It also serves as a canvas for the noble element: wood. The sloped ceiling follows the shape of the roof, reminiscent of traditional Polynesian fares. The wooden beams in the ceiling add a noble and decorative element, amplifying the space without darkening it. They finish on the wall where the TV is installed within a wooden casing. To let in more light, the architect created a corner window framing the view of the mountain and bringing greenery into the room. From the sofa, one can gaze at the ocean view stretching to the horizon.

The choice of furniture includes teak and oak to maintain warm tones. The woven jute rug adds warmth and comfort, completing the luxurious style of this villa.

A Nod to Polynesian Culture

Inspired by Gauguin’s paintings, the children’s rooms are painted in different colors found in Gauguin's artworks: one is yellow, the other blue. The Polynesian element is present in the form of materials (local wood, Maru Maru), paintings, or decorative accessories.

The master bedroom features a dressing area leading to the bathroom, which also includes wooden furniture. The main window faces the view of Moorea, while the glass doors open onto the pool.
