Kinsman :
A Love Letter to Hong Kong
Enter Kinsman, a dreamy speakeasy bar inspired by Wong Kar Wai’s chef- d’oeuvre In the Mood for Love.
Intimate, nostalgic yet exciting and innovative, the space invites to a travel in time to celebrate what Hong Kong has best to offer : an ever transient city enriched by its colonial era and its strategic location in Asia, a melting pot of culture where chic meets rough, motion alternates with stillness and flavours blend beautifully.
Humbleness
The entrance is modest and understated. Windows are arched, following the colonial architectural details.
The use of typical Hong Kong mosaic tiles on the floor, tiled ceilings and green metal grids at the windows ground the place itself.
Thick and patterned velvet curtains, brass inserts elevates the place, adding a hint of luxury to the entrance.
Inside celebrates togetherness. Intimate, cozy, the interior is domestic.
Walls are covered with timber panelling and a pale pink stucco plaster. Surface mount glass and brass lights and quirky wall sconces give a dim atmosphere.
The bar is the highlight of the space : a vaulted back bar is decorated with a colourful handpainted mural by Hong Kong artist Cheung Mally.Celebrating the future and the past, the art of cocktails making, and the multi- generations behind each traditional distillery, the bar is vibrant, yet functional and straightforward.
